SIZING A ROPE

Instructions to choose sizing for a rope

A good place to start when sizing a rope is to:
  • Stand on the rope with both feet together.
  • Pull the handles of the rope toward your armpits (the ends of the handles should reach the top of the shoulders).
  • Take a few jumps and watch where the rope hits the ground. It should hit the ground just in front of the athlete’s toes:
  • If the rope is hitting the ground more than 10 cm in front of the athlete’s toes, the rope may need to be shortened.

  1. If the rope is hitting the ground more than 10 cm in front of the athlete’s toes, the rope may need to be shortened.
  2. If the rope is catching the athlete’s toes, they may need the rope lengthened
  • Watch how the athlete turns their arms to see if they need a longer or shorter rope:
  1. Large arm circles means they will need a longer rope
  2. Small wrist circles with arms at the athlete’s side indicates they will need a shorter rope
  • If the rope is too long, you can tie knots in the PVC cord or for beaded ropes you can remove some beads and re-tie the Figure-8 Knot.
  • As technique improve, the rope may need to be shortened.
